From home shutters to building camp fires
It is all too often easy for us to take advantage of the technology that we have available to us and as such many of us would have little chance of survival should we find ourselves trying to get by in the great outdoors. When feeding ourselves at home we put together ingredients and cook meals using modern facilities with little or no effort and even hunting and foraging are skills that we no longer use as shops and supermarkets are able to supply us with all that we need. More important to us nowadays are matters such as home improvements and how comfortable we can make ourselves whilst putting our feet up and forgetting about the world outside.
We can even close our shutters to completely enclose us from what is happening outside and we can even afford to worry about things such as the appearance of our home, rather than fretting about and striving for the basics needed for our very survival. As such, outdoor adventures can be a challenge to us all and adversity can really help to create and strengthen bonds between groups and individuals, making survival training courses great team building exercises. So when you are putting the kettle on to make a cup of tea or coffee, stop for just a second to think just how easy and convenient it is and ask yourself if you could even make a fire if you were caught out in the cold without the necessary tools.
